I am pleased to confirm that the Committee of the VBL has decided to run the 4 major Cup Competitions this season albeit starting much later than we would have preferred.
To confirm the Cup Competitions are on a Knockout basis for teams of 2 rinks. If the score is tied, sides must play extra ends to a conclusion. Trophies will be awarded to the Winners and there are lapel badges for the Runners-Up.
For clarity the Cup Competitions are as follows –
George Hatch Memorial Cup – Open across all Zones
Lyttle Cup – restricted to Zone A – all teams may enter.
Thornton Cup – restricted to Zone B number 1 teams only.
Stevenson Cup – restricted to Zone B but only open to 2nd and lower teams.
In the past the VBL has requested a nominal fee to enter each of the Cup Competitions however given the short timescales and in an effort to reduce administration we have decided for this season to waiver the Entry Fee. We would however ask each Club entering to consider an additional donation to our designated charity, the Children’s Cancer Fund NI and cheques can be forwarded to our Treasurer, Robert McCullough in due course or alternatively hand over to him at a later date or donate to Arvon’s ‘Yellow Bucket’ at future VBL events. This charity along with a majority of others has unfortunately experienced a shortfall in donations in the last 2 years due to the Covid situation therefore your generosity would be greatly appreciated
IMPORTANT – the deadline to enter any of the Cup Competitions is 6.00pm Friday 24 June as we hope to hold the First Rounds on Friday 1st July.
